Flotilla 12-01

Flotilla 12-1 is located in Fort Totten, Bayside, NY. We operate under the supervision of USCG Sector New York. Our area of responsibility is North Shore of Long Island from Matinecock Point West into the East River to Mill Rock. We meet on the 2nd Thursday of every month and hold social activities throught the year. We provide free vessel safety checks at local marinas. We also offer safe boating classes to the public in Queens, Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Course offerings include Boating Safety, Navigation, Sailing, and more.

Our members are qualified in many different operational capacities; coxswains, interpreters, crew members, PWC operators, and several certified instructors. Many are qualified vessel examiners who conduct vessel safety checks and recreational boating safety visits.

We train extensively and we conduct safety, regatta, and chart updating patrols. As you can imagine we're out on the water a lot. We often provide assistance to boaters both experienced and novice.

The United States Coast Guard Auxiliary is the uniformed civilian component of the Coast Guard established by Congress in 1939 to assist in promoting boating safety. It boasts nearly 30,000 members from all walks of life who receive special training so that they may be an intergal part of "Team Coast Guard". Auxiliarists assist the Coast Guard in non-law enforcement missions such as public education, vessel safety checks, safety patrols, search and rescue, maritime safety and security and environmental protection. Auxiliarists volunteer more than 2 million hours every year.

For members we provide advanced training in such topics as seamanship, navigation, communications, weather, boat crew, coxswain, and more. This training provides the skills necessary to serve and enjoy the fellowship of the Auxiliary.
