New York State Safe Boating

Course Overview

Runs One Day, 8:45AM - 4:45PM

This course meets the NYS and USCG requirements for PWC Operation, youth and adult boating safety certification.

Upon successful completion you will have met the requirements and can operate a PWC/Jetski or as a youth boater operate a vessel independently. You will receive a boating safety certificate in the classroom at the end of this course.

The course is designed as a comprehensive boating course, teaching the fundamentals of safe boating operation. Taught by state certified instructors using materials approved by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators. This class includes the following topics:

  3. Boating Related Activities
  4. Boats Operations
  5. Seamanship
  6. Equipment
  7. Fueling & Ventilation
  8. Marine Environment
  9. Navigation
  10. Numbering & Registration
  11. Preparation for Getting Underway
  12. Personal Watercraft
  13. Rules of the Road
  14. Safe Loading & Powering

Upon successful completion of the course a temporary certificate -- valid for 90 days -- will be issued. Adults 18 yrs of age or older must mail a $10 fee to the State of New York for a permanent certification card. There is no $10 fee to get the permanent card for children between 10-17 yrs of age.

A copy of the third edition of the " New York Safe Boating Textbook: A Course on the Safe Operation of Boats and Personal Watercraft" can be downloaded to your computer, phone, or tablet. Hard copy textbooks will be available at the class for those who would like one.
